With Oscar nominations right around the corner, you may want to revisit a few Academy Award winners of the past. Netflix makes this easy, with a whole category dedicated to “Oscar-winning movies.” Below are 21 standouts from that retrospective category. But I should also mention that Netflix’s own “Roma” is a front-runner for Best Picture (nominees will be announced Jan. 22 and the awards ceremony is Feb. 24). Although it hasn’t won an Oscar yet, you should stream that beautiful movie right along with the already certified winners.

Oscars Aftermath: Behind The Scenes At The Show & Parties On An Emotional Night To Remember
I pointed out that, with Guillermo del Toro’s big win, Mexican directors have won four of the past five Best Director Oscars. Del Toro, Iñárritu and Gravity’s Alfonso Cuaron, best friends and longtime collaborators and colleagues all, are affectionately known as the “three amigos.” With The Shape of Water and Coco triumphs, Iñárritu noted it was a very big night for Mexico. “I am just waiting to see what Trump tweets about this,” he said while promising to get del Toro drunk as soon as he could find him.

Horror films deserve Oscar nominations too
Another year, another list of Oscar nominations. And yet again, as with most years in the history of the Academy Awards, not a single horror movie has been nominated. Sure, the dearth of award-winning horror flicks is nothing new, but as the genre continues to turn out excellent art, it's becoming harder and harder to justify the lack of awards recognition. Before diving into the numbers, here are some of the best horror flicks of 2016 that didn't receive any recognition from the Academy and should have.
