Super Mario Odyssey Review - A New Era - GameRevolution
There's never been a Mario game quite like Super Mario Odyssey. Though it adopts the open, non-linear level design of Mario 64 and adapts it into grandiose environments akin to Super Mario Galaxy, this is as fresh as the series has felt in years, and much like Breath of the Wild it's evidence of Nintendo's newfound confidence in its Switch era of games. As a huge fan of the series for over two decades, I can safely say that it's in contention for the best Mario game to date.

‘It’s Simply Bursting With Creative Wonder,’ Says Reviewer Of New Game Where Mario Sometimes Dresses As Chef
Lavishing praise on Nintendo for its fresh and inspired design, a reviewer declared Thursday that a new game in which Mario sometimes dresses as a chef is “simply bursting with creative wonder.” “Every moment of this delightful adventure is overflowing with wildly innovative ideas that take the franchise in a bold new direction,” said video game critic Derek Tillman of the newly released platformer where Mario periodically dons a chef’s hat, jacket, and apron, and can wield a whisk as a weapon.

Nintendo's incredible year continues, but not without a few minor casualties along the way
Well, isn't this quite the problem to be having. It really doesn't seem that long ago there were righteous complaints about the dearth of decent Nintendo titles, understandable given a fairly miserable 2016 which saw the Wii U shuffle off this mortal coil with little in the way of love or support. The assumption was, of course, that Nintendo was busying itself for what was set to be an important 2017 - but even then, I doubt anyone could have predicted what was to come.

Mario Odyssey sold through 90% of its shipment in Japan
Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best reviewed games of all time and the fastest selling Mario game of all time. The game is so popular in Japan that Nintendo sold 90% of its initial shipment, Japanese outlet Dengeki reports. A 90% sell though rate is pretty rare and shows that pretty much everyone with a Switch console wants a copy of Super Mario Odyssey. According to sales trackers, the game sold 456,000 copies in Japan in just three days.

The Switch is powering Nintendo toward a $1 billion profit
Things haven't been this good at Nintendo for a long time. The Japanese video game maker ramped up its sales and profit forecasts on Monday as consumers race to buy its latest console, the Switch. Nintendo (NTDOF) said it now expects operating profit for the current financial year of 120 billion yen ($1.06 billion), nearly double the 65 billion yen ($572 million) it predicted three months ago. That would be its best performance since 2010 when smash hit devices like the Wii and DS were still selling well.

The Switch's special year is set to end as it began, with another 100 hour classic
Compare and contrast the lead-up to the launch of Xenoblade Chronicles 2 with developer Monolith Soft's last two Nintendo outings (or indeed its last effort, given how it lent a hand with Breath of the Wild) and you can't help but feel it's all been a little muted. Perhaps it's just circumstance; this is coming at the tail-end of a spectacularly busy year for the Switch, hot on the heels of a mainline Mario. But when the first Xenoblade Chronicles launched on the Wii it was the culmination of a long journey...
