Wings aren't cooking, but fans still get fries
The Detroit Red Wings have the worst record (1-6-2) in the NHL after nine games, fulfilling the expectations of many who believed they'd be one of the league's worst teams as they rebuild. There may have been no greater harbinger of that futility than the newly established threshold for free curly fries in Detroit.

Washington Capitals Win Stanley Cup, Eliminate Vegas Golden Knights
For the first time in 2018, the Stanley Cup was in the building. A few hours later, it was in the hands of the Washington Capitals. After a tight first period, the second period featured a combined five goals. This blew things wide open, and the Vegas Golden Knights carried a one-goal lead into the third. Unfortunately for them, the Caps weren’t done; a pair of Washington goals in the third period finished off Vegas’ bid at a championship. Devante-Smith Pelly tied the game, and Lars Eller scored the winner.

NHL playoffs: Capitals blank Lightning in Game 7, will face Golden Knights for Stanley Cup
Alex Ovechkin scored early and Andre Burakovsky added two second-period goals to help the Washington Capitals put a decade of playoff frustration behind them with a 4-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference final Wednesday night. Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for his second straight shutout and the Lightning, who led the NHL in goals during the regular season, failed to score in the last 159 minutes, 27 seconds — a stretch of nearly eight periods.

36-year-old accountant forced into NHL goal crease, plays 14 perfect minutes
Scott Foster thought it was going to be just another night. Then the 36-year-old accountant signed a contract, put on his goaltender gear and waited in Chicago's locker room. Then he got into the game. Then, it was his night. Foster was pressed into action when Chicago lost Anton Forsberg and Collin Delia to injuries, and the former college goalie stopped all seven shots he faced over the final 14 minutes of the Blackhawks' 6-2 victory over the playoff-bound Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.

The 5 Toughest Defensemen I’ve Ever Faced
Before we start, I just want to take a second to thank our fans in San Jose for their part in an amazing ride to the Stanley Cup finals. I’m back home in Canada for the summer, and so many people have come up to me and said, “Hey, that was a great run. I enjoyed watching it." Whenever they do, the memories come flooding back — each and every series. Beating the Kings in the opening round was huge because, there’s obviously no love lost between us and them. But beyond the L.A. series, there are two specific moments I’ll remember about this postseason until the day I die:
