The newcomers all seem to be pretty enthusiastic and positive. I still see a handful of downvotes every day with "no reason" selected if any reason is given at all, but no comments to clarify what warranted the downvotes. I continue to ignore any hostility I see and participate in civil discussions. So it could be a lot worse, but I'm not seeing many changes. I guess we'll just have to put up with a few bad apples determined to treat the downvote as a button for "I disagree."

I concur Most of the newcomers seem to be adapting amazingly. We have however seen a influx in people trying to game or bot the xp system. But overall it's been pretty good.

I really think an explanation page or pop-up that appears when you first click on a downvote would do much to help with that.

It does, but only for snaps. And it can sometimes take a moment to appear if the server is under load. Plus, I've seen people list "no reason" from the box without clarifying in a comment, which doesn't help.

I'm of the opinion that "no reason" and no option downvotes shouldn't count toward the votes on a snap.

          I meant for comments.

Maybe triggering the popup via javascript would bypass server load?

I agree. I would love the popup for any downvote. But since I'm not an admin I don't know how feasible that might be.
