    I disagree.

The lounge tribe is a place for all members to get together and hang out.
New members are encouraged to introduce themselves to get to know some of the other members.

Yes, there seems to be an influx of new member posts, but I think those will lessen when Reddit stops being dramatic (which might be a couple days or so.) At the time being, I like looking through the posts and talking to those I have similar interesting in.
/t/lounge is the most visited tribe (I think), so if you shoo all the new people into a brand-new tribe meant for welcoming new people, when all the hype dies down, you're left with a small tribe that has little purpose because that's what the lounge is for. And those people told to go to the /t/welcome tribe might actually feel unwelcome, because they're not allowed in the "real" discussion tribe, they have to introduce themselves in a tribe meant for introductions. It feels forced.

To be honest, I much prefer introductory posts than questions in here asking about where the features similar to Reddit are or suggestions that have been reposted multiple times...

No problem. :) Hope I didn't come off too harsh, I've been told I have a problem with that. You had the best of intentions!

No, I think you handled it very well. Wouldn't be discussion if everyone agrees with each other.
