Unfortunately I think that it will too. It sucks but I think this site has a whole lot of potential.

I jumped over here a couple of weeks ago after I saw it as a potential alternative in some thread or another. I think a lot of the comparisons of reddit to digg are somewhat unfounded, seeing as reddit's present user base is significantly larger than digg's ever was, especially at the time of their collapse and to use everyone's favorite political buzzwords reddit just might be "too big to fail" at least in a certain sense.

That being said, what I see happening is a lot of the people that have been on reddit for some time, jumping ship or pulling back on their involvement which will increase low quality content, which for a business is fine. People love their dank memes and other silly shit so the major subs and the front page won't be terribly affected in the long run, it's the smaller, niche communities that relied on these long-term individuals that'll suffer the most.

Even then, I'm not really entirely transitioning away from reddit at this point. For now whatever alternatives that do exist feel very empty and lack that general sense of community and identity. As long as the smaller communities I frequent stay up and active for a while, I'll still hang around. Really I'm here to see if I like snapzu because I like trying new things and seeing what different mediums have to offer.

Hello! This website seemed much better than Voat so I came here and made my very own tribe, /t/pinkfloyd, feel free to join! When I first came to reddit it was so fun, but it has lost all of that magic over the years. Hopefully in Snapzu, we can maintain that great feeling we all had when we first used reddit! I believe that reddit will fall, but I sincerely hope the migrants come here!

Agreed - when I took a peek at Voat, it seemed like a lot of channers and trolls and GamerGaters. Not really the kind of people I want hanging around. I prefer the community here, although I'd like to see a bit more activity.

Welcome! I'm enjoying the mechanics of this site much more than reddit. I just hope that maybe we can get the invite pool opened up a bit to speed the exodus. Then again, I have no idea whether or not snapzu could even handle the traffic if invites doubled. I know my 3 invites were snapped up in about 2 minutes of posting them on reddit.

Hi all. I'm testing out reddit alternatives and Snapzu seems promising to me. I'm not really sure how Reddit will die but I wouldn't be too sad if it did. I never really posted there much except for in the really small subreddits. I'm a bit of a lurker so I'm not sure how much I will post. But perhaps I'll post more here as the community here seems less intimidating to me than Reddit's.

Hi everybody. Like many, I'm investigating Reddit alternatives but don't think the Voat crowd are my Tribe.

My problem with Voat isn't even necessarily the community (which already have its own problems), but rather the fact that it's a reddit clone. Voat is essentially a shittier version of reddit run by a couple of teenagers. I wanted to find something that wasn't reddit, and isn't trying to be reddit. Snapzu is great, because it has its own identity, and is a great platform for discussion

They seem really hateful on Voat, probably because of all the fat people hate guys going over. Just not the best community, though I didn't give it a chance this seems a lot better.

    Hey!

I almost dipped from Reddit with the last wave that started with the censoring of fatpeoplehate. I even made an account on Voat, but I went back to Reddit. This time I tried this place and so far, It looks like I will be staying here!

I am like you, minus the going to voat first. I think I will be here for a while.

Hello. So far i'm pretty impressed with the level of politeness and conversation i've seen. It's nice to find somewhere civilized.

I'm new here, and I'm hoping this website is going to be a place for actual conversation instead of circle-jerking. Circle-jerking is fun, until everybody gets in on it, then it's just mindless posting and posting ugh.

    • DylanMcDermott

I liked the actual circlejerk subreddit. It was a quality way for reddit to "check itself" by satirizing its own hypocrisy and whatnot. I what i disliked was the Circlejerking in threads, the pun chains, and the brigading.

I posted this in the wrong thread earlier.

So hello, I'm new. I'm really really into The Last of Us Factions but that will be falling to the wayside in 4 days when ROCKET LEAGUE!!! is released on PS+. I'm so excited it's irrational!

    Hi

I think it's too diverse to fail and people won't really want to leave. It won't really die, but large portions might fizzle out.

Don't really care about the karma conversion, I'm mostly a lurker anyways so didn't have much to begin with.

Sorry... copy and paste from another similar thread!

Hey there! I'm Erudito, I came from a previous (though much smaller) exodus from Reddit.

My two favourite tribes (which coincidentally I mod) are /t/satire and /t/improv

If any former redditors wanna help Mod follow and PM me. I'm looking for help! No previous experience required, cos I don't have much either! Check out both and see what you think.

    Hey!

Reddit probably won't fall down, but this particular instance is where I pack my bags and leave. To be frank, not a huge fan of corporate culture, and that is exactly what seems to be happening with Reddit. Understand the need to monetize, but appears as though they are looking to go back on the whole 'end-user determines their content' philosophy. Oh, and transparency.

    Nothing to protest-

Anyways like the feel of the site, very impressed with it's style, needs some growth, but that will come I'm sure.

    • Niqulaz
      +2

I think a lot of it is due to them hiring a lot of people who are primarily corporate people, rather than redditors.

Years ago, reddit would announce that they were hiring on reddit, hiring members of the community capable of filling a role. A vacancy was basically filled by a post like this: http://www.redditblog.com/2010/08/reddit-is-hiring.html Now it looks like this: https://jobs.lever.co/reddit/3a6a4e70-4649-41be-9d94-f4e58a44d8d5 (I would recommend against applying, by the way. I hear the work environment isn't all that for some reason or another...)

Looking at the team-page now, there's hardly a handful of community-people left, and a whole lot of users that have a "Verified email" or "One-year club" badges, only having signed up after getting a job (or if they were savvy, having signed up prior to applying for a job).

Once upon a time, the site was run by people who were lucky enough to have reddit as a full time job. Now it's a bunch of people who are trying to find out how to make money from the couple of millions of pairs of eyeballs that look at their site every day.

Sup dudes. I came from reddit and I am obsessed with the show friends. I keep saltwater aquariums and most of my snaps will probably be along the lines of that. I really hope that reddit dies because right now, it is a very toxic community. Is that bad? I wasted so much of my life on that site and now its time to move on lol. I think that the people leaving reddit are either coming here(the better site) or going to voat.

Doing my part in the exodus and joining Snapzu. This place looks really cool but the mains reasons i'm here is because reddit got to repetitive and mundane. Sick of it. Excited for the new start.

Oh hi! I've been waiting on a hopeful day when reddit imploded... Not saying I didn't enjoy it and that I don't enjoy it, but as a past Mod of several sub-reddits I hated the lack of any real control over things. It always felt way too wild west for me. I really hope folks are trying to merge towards Snapzu et al.
