Allow me to ignore this. reddit is still my home (I prefer the discussion aspect of reddit), but I DO think that it's really gone downhill in the last ~3 months. Here's why:
The increased amounts of immature comments that redditors make purely to get Karma is disgusting. While a childish joke or misinterpretation can be funny at times, so much of it isn't. In most of the popular subreddits, it's almost a given that the top comment will relate to either illegal drugs or things of a sexual nature. And almost always it's in the form of a bad joke.
Joke replies have basically ruined some of the most popular threads in /r/AskReddit.
Pun trains are funny the first couple of times, but it gets to be a bit much after a while.
The whole site has basically turned into one big circle jerk. Need I say more?
User hate has also been on the rise. If you make a single comment that's against the general hivemind, prepare to get downvoted to oblivion. And watch as the comment under you saying "IDK why you're being downvoted" gets upvoted to heaven. And of course, it's never fun to see that the downvote brigade has struck again; just this time it's to the first couple pages of your user overview, and only because the "hivemind rule" demands it. In addition, if a user, for whatever reason, becomes subject to extreme hate in any particular thread, I'd advise that they just go ahead and make a new account now; even an earnest apology for an honest mistake won't do you any good. (I swear I'm not just a sucky redditor, you can check user IridescentOak's page at reddit to prove it. This is just what I've noticed with others.)
User worship, on the other hand, isn't healthy either. Not a day goes by that I don't see a "UNIDAN IS THE ONE TRUE GOD, EXTERMINATE ALL OPPOSERS" comment. Not that I've got anything against the reddit-famous, I just don't see the appeal in deifying them; they're just regular people.

Incompetent Moderation is another big one. Either they don't exist, or they abuse their powers. /r/AskHistorians and /r/AskScience have been doing a superb job, thankfully.
Drama is another major factor. Either it's a witch hunt, a Moderator fiasco, or, more recently, or an Admin controversy (see, the below topic).
The Adimins are slowly killing reddit. I hate to jump on that bandwagon, I really do, but it's true. (I'm sure there are good Admins, but they probably don't want to be mixed up in what's going on right now.) The Admins are ignoring their users and making decisions that are hurting the users, but benefiting corporate. Some say it's all because of adverting schemes, but I don't know, so I won't comment on that.
MY FAVORITE SUBREDDIT HAS BEEN RUINED. D:< I AM WILLING TO CRY AT THIS POINT. ~3 MONTHS AGO, /R/POKEMON WAS ONE OF THE MOST HONEST, KINDEST COMMUINITIES, BUT TROLLS AND JERKS HAVE INVADED AND RUINED IT. ABOVE REASONS 1 THROUGH 5 APPLY. I AM SORRY FOR SHOUTING, BUT MY HEART HAS BEEN HARDENED INTO A LUMP OF SOLID COAL, THEN BROKEN INTO A MILLION PEICES. (BTW, shout out to /t/pokemon, but that place has almost zero activity. I hope it'll grow!)
Right. So, sorry for the rant. In short, I still frequent reddit, but I don't hold it in as high regard as I once did.
100% agree with everything, but i would say it started more than 3 months ago, more like 3 years.. and yes the admins and certain mods are complete tools.
It probably did, but I've only been a redditor for about 8 months, so I couldn't say. I guess things just got even worse around that time, and I noticed.
Its strange, I honestly don't think I would've joined reddit if I found it around the time you did. Maybe its only due to the fact that I've seen it fall so much in the past few years. I just wouldn't see the awesome points that brought me to the community in the first place because, well, they are pretty much gone. I started lurking a bit before the digg migration.
Also, I find the complaint about Unidan funny. He is actually one of the best powerusers the site has ever seen. The ones before brought no content to the site. At least Unidan posts interesting stuff.
I actually think Unidan is a pretty great guy. He's intelligent and well-natured, which is more than I can say for a lot of people on reddit.
What I have a problem with is the people that treat him like he's the best thing since sliced bread. (Off-topic, but I actually prefer whole loaf bread. It can be so many different things! It generally tastes better, too.) But when an entire thread gets derailed because he popped up and others just think it's perfectly fine to sit there fawning over him, it kind of bothers me. It's similar to how people just love to idolize popular celebrities.
Not saying it's a bad thing, I just find it a little annoying. I in no way wish to speak ill of Unidan, he's pretty neat.
Oh ya. I think that's just for every poweruser. People will circlejerk whenever they see a poweruser. It just so happens that Unidan is well respected so the circlejerk is how much they like him. I see what you are saying. It gets annoying.

I agree with this assessment. I'm going there less and less as I'm sick of seeing the hate fests,,the trolling and the immunity. I left Digg for Reddit and now I'm gradually leaving Reddit for this site.
