Shortly after the last plane leaves, the winter-overs gather in the main dining room, the Galley, for a showing of the science fiction movie "The Thing," about an alien that attacks researchers in an isolated Antarctic base. At midwinter, tradition dictates that the film "The Shining," about a family isolated in a haunted hotel after a snowstorm, be shown.
