Snapzu, I was a bit of a dick to you. Can I make it up to you?

Hi there.

A few days ago when I posted my updated list of 52 online communities you can head to other than Reddit one of the comments I made about the site having a dull feel to comments was picked upon. It's for good reason too as it didn't correctly convey how I feel and it was more down to the conversation through the default areas of the site and the ever lingering talk of Reddit.

However since then I've had a few users direct me to their favourite tribes and talk to me more about the platform and their point of view. As such when I do an updated version in a month, with a more in depth review of online communities in a month, I hope to better convey my feelings about the site.

Still, my sloppiness wasn't particularly fair and while I'll obviously have my own biases to which I'll happily admit to that's not right for you guys.

I'm going to Lovebox Festival today in London. So if anyone is there and you find me, please don't punch me, but allow me to get you a beer. I'm not sure how I can get this in motion though without linking something but if you look for @sobeyharker on Twitter you'll be able to see where I am and what I'm up to.

Anyway, hope there's no particularly hard feelings, and that some of you will come claim that beer. Be it one, two, many, lots! (To quote Terry Pratchett).

Great, I'm looking forward to it!

Looking at the bright side, it did spawn quite a lot of discussion & if it was the motivation for you to take a closer look at the other communities as well, I think all's ending well!

I'd like to think Snapzu hasn't as of yet garnered people who would go around punching people for their work! Sadly I won't be attending the festival, but do have a good time & hopefully you'll meet some other nice people from here to share a beer with!

Thank you! Well hopefully someone will be around so they can see that I'm not that much of a pillock but yes that response was what I was looking for from this community and I think the timing was just a bit unfortunate on the days I spent lurking around.

But yes, don't get me wrong, I like Snapzu and that's why it's featured rather further up the list.

I don't think you need to worry about anyone punching you! I know some people got really upset, but there's no need to blame yourself for all of it, it's just the way she goes.

Also, welcome to the community! Even after what seemed like a roasting, you're still here. I'm glad you've decided to stay!

I didn't think your review was all that bad. It was simply stating that the community had room to grow, which isn't exactly false. Though we are a smaller community, I feel the attitude most of us convey here and the way we treat each other more than makes up for the lack of activity. It's very hard to find a community where the default attitude of the users is friendly, welcoming and optimistic, and that's mainly the reason I use this site above all the other ones you have listed.

That being said, I did thoroughly enjoy your list of community reviews, and have actually bookmarked your blog post so I could check out some of these other communities, which I would otherwise never have known about without your master list. I'm always looking to diversify the amount of sites I go to, and one thing the reddit exodus has allowed me to do is to seek out other sources of community, entertainment and news, and not waste so much time on one centralized site.

Anyway, you did not have to come over and apologize, but I do appreciate the fact that your willing to give us a second chance. Spend a few days on here, and try a few new tribes. Hopefully we leave a better impression on you in time for your next review.

I think it was for the best. Let Voat soak up the riff-raff, Snapzu feels just right for now.

Yeah I mean think about it, if Reddit users all came here it would just turn into another Reddit with the pun threads and the Bernie Sanders posts non-stop

See I don't mind Bernie Sanders posts because he's my guy in the elections right now, but what annoyed me on reddit was it wouldn't stay in /r/sandersforpresident. Literally all of the first ten or so posts of /r/politics at one point was Bernie Sanders news. Mods really should've stepped up more and got rid of the Sanders spam.

Of things to complain about seeing posted all the time on reddit, posts about a political candidate during an election season seems like an odd thing to list first lol

I don't mind the Bernie posts. Thinking about a Bush/Clinton election makes me shudder, so I hope they do for Sanders what they did for Obama.

I unsubbed from r/politics almost immediately, so maybe I just didn't get inundated, and that's why it didn't bother me when I saw them heaping praise. There is only so much politics one can handle per day, especially in an echo chamber like Reddit.

It takes a strong person to admit they're wrong. Thank you for doing so, and I look forward to the new article when it comes out. Hope you'll enjoy your time on snapzu as well, it's always good to have all sorts of people here.

Of course, any post with a Terry Pratchett quote will get an upvote from me, regardless.

An apology has been down Voted? I don't understand why someone would down vote this. Isn't this a misuse of the down vote system on Snapzu? Or am I missing something.

I apologize to you, for using insulting you and your effort in creating said list in that other thread. And thanks for giving Snapzu a fair shake.

As someone on the other side of the Great Pond, no way I'll be there, but considered the beer shared, dude. Nice to see people that have the nerve to admit mistakes so openly :)

Everyone makes mistakes mate. The difference between a good person and an asshat is admitting to and owning your errors. You admitted it and you apologised to boot so that's more than enough for me. I am willing to bet many people here feel the same.
