iPadOS 17 Again Rumored to Drop Support for These iPads
Apple in iPadOS 17 will drop support for the first-generation 9.7-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro as well as the fifth-generation iPad, according to French tech website iPhoneSoft. This is the second time we have heard claims regarding iPad device compatibility for the next operating system Apple is developing. Early last month, a source with a proven track record for upcoming software updates said the same three models will not be supported.

OLED iPads might be a lot more expensive than predicted
The retail price of an OLED iPad is rumored to be considerably higher than current models, with one key component likely costing Apple three times more than what it pays now. Apple is thought to be working on a update to the iPad Pro line, introducing OLED displays to the range sometime in 2024. While the use of the technology could result in an even thinner design than the current miniLED-backlit models, it could end up being quite expensive to consumers.

Apple's Next iPad Mini Is in the Works, Analyst Says
Apple is working on a new iPad Mini with a fresh processor aimed for release late next year or in the first half of 2024, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in a tweet on Tuesday. He also said it's unlikely Apple will replace the Mini with a foldable iPad in 2025 because a foldable device would cost much more than a Mini, making it a poor proposition as a Mini replacement. Kuo is a widely followed analyst with a reputation for reliable Apple predictions.

Apple's green rhetoric suggests Macs and iPads should merge
Opinion Apple's Mac hardware keeps getting thinner and lighter, and its iPads keep becoming more and more capable. I'm hardly the first to observe that the two products are getting closer together - but if Apple's environmental claims mean anything the products are now so close it's irresponsible they don't overlap.

The new iPad's USB-C port is really a Lightning port in disguise
After years of the Lightning port on iPhones, iPads, and other devices, Apple is forced to switch to USB-C, thanks in part to the European Union. In many ways, that’s a good thing for users, but you don’t believe it’s going to be a seamless transition, do you?

The new iPad makes no sense
You heard me. What’s up with this entry-level iPad? The iPad had one thing going for it: price. At $329, the entry-level model has been a real pain in my neck as a laptop reviewer for the past year. Every time I’ve wanted to recommend a budget laptop, Chromebook, or tablet, I’ve had to caveat that the iPad exists and might be a better deal. For multimedia or as a secondary device that didn’t need to accommodate, say, an enterprise workload, $329 was a steal.

Why Apple's M2 iPad Pros don't have a landscape FaceTime camera
Apple threw a little party yesterday, announcing new M2 iPad Pros in 11- and 12.9-inch versions, a redesigned 10th-generation iPad, and two models of the Apple TV 4K. As they always do, the new iPads look great on their own, but zoom out and take a look at Apple's family of iPads, and questions start to pop up. The big one everyone is asking: Why does the new 10th-generation iPad have a landscape FaceTime camera while the premium M2 iPad Pros are stuck with a vertical front-facing camera?

Apple’s move to iPhones with USB-C likely to be short-lived
Apple is set to shift from the Lightning charging port on the iPhone and other devices to USB-C to abide by a new European law, but the company is still planning on a wireless-first future. The iPhone 15 is essentially a lock to get USB-C in the fall of 2023, beating the mandate by a year. The one remaining iPad without USB-C (the entry-level model), should be getting the port by the end of this year.

Apple's iPadOS 16 might be late by a month due to buggy Stage Manager
As per a report by people with knowledge of the matter, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple expects to delay the iPadOS update by about a month, which sounds quite odd as it won't be released at the same time as the new iOS update like it used to. iOS 16 is set to come out in September, while iPadOS 16, as per the new report, will only roll out in October.

With Stage Manager, Apple resizes the iPad's workflow.
It was initially a big success because of its user-friendly design and single-application concentration, but the iPad had become a little boring for some who want more depth. One of the world's most powerful medium-format computers, the gap between its capabilities and the types of work it accepts has been widening...

As disruptions in China continue, Apple will start making iPads in Vietnam
In the face of COVID lockdown-related supply disruptions, Apple is moving some iPad production from China to Vietnam, according to Nikkei Asia. The company is also taking other measures with its suppliers to soften the blow of supply issues in China. This is not Apple's first attempt to move some production out of China. Some iPhones have been made in India, a small number of Macs have been assembled in the United States, and Vietnam is already a major factor in AirPods production.

Rediscovering the Mac: An iPad User’s Journey into macOS with the M1 Max MacBook Pro
For the past few months, I’ve been living a double life. Most of you probably know me as “the iPad guy”. And rightfully so: the iPad – more specifically, the iPad Pro – is my favorite computer Apple’s ever made; my coverage of iPad, iPad apps, and, later, iPadOS has far exceeded everything else on MacStories for the last 10 years. I’ve long considered myself primarily an iPad user and someone who strongly believes in the platform because there’s nothing else like it. I don’t think I need to tell that story again.

Apple Patent Suggests Future iPad Could Transform Into macOS-Like Experience When Attached to a Keyboard
A new Apple patent has suggested that a future iPad or version of iPadOS could include the ability to transform the tablet into a macOS-like user experience when it's attached to an external keyboard. The patent, first reported by Patently Apple, is wide-ranging in its potential implementation. Apple regularly patents dozens of ideas, and only very few ever see the light of day. Nonetheless, this patent describes a base device, such as a keyboard that includes keys and a trackpad, that could be coupled with a computing device, such as an iPad, to deliver what seems like a macOS similar experience with an Apple Pencil.

Opinion: iPad sees year-over-year sales decline, I blame iPadOS for that
Last week, Apple released its earnings report for the second quarter of the year, which ended in March. While the company just launched a new iPad Air with the M1 chip, Center Stage, and 5G support, numbers show that the iPad is generating less money and it’s suffering from a year-over-year sales decline. Personally, I blame iPadOS for that.
