This is how Brexit, immigration and housing sparked Britain’s political revolution
Britain is experiencing profound political changes, going by the outcome of the general election, but new trends are shadowy, developing below the surface. It may be that Labour’s relative success – achieved amid confident predictions by pundits of annihilating defeat – stemmed from a last-minute change of direction by voters, or simply because pollsters vastly underestimated the turnout of pro-Labour younger voters. By Patrick Cockburn.

‘Selfish baby boomers stop new housing’
BABY boomers are blocking ways of solving the housing crisis facing the young because they ‘live in another world’, Sajid Javid said yesterday. Older people oppose development projects and unfairly accuse millennials of spending on ‘nights out and smashed avocados’ instead of saving for deposits, the communities secretary claimed. He said boomers ‘who have long since paid off their own mortgage’ are ‘not facing up to the reality of modern life’. ‘Without affordable, secure, safe housing we risk creating a rootless generation,’ said the MP (pictured).

A robot can print this $64,000 house in as few as 8 hours — take a look inside
Building a house by hand can be both time-consuming and expensive. Some homebuilders have chosen to automate part of the construction instead. A new Ukrainian homebuilding startup called PassivDom uses a 3D printing robot that can print parts for tiny houses. The machine can print the walls, roof, and floor of PassivDom's 410-square-foot model in about eight hours. The windows, doors, plumbing, and electrical systems are then added by a human worker.

Vancouver to adopt ‘locals-first’ housing strategy
Vancouver locals are about to get first crack at some new condo projects in the region, as developers are either being forced to comply with new regulations or they are voluntarily changing tactics as they face an increasingly irate public. As the city's real estate market continues to move out of reach for many local residents, reports of condo units being presold to foreign buyers have generated anger and concern. So now at least three projects in Vancouver are moving to a locals-first strategy when preselling and more are to come, say marketers and city officials.

Police ‘fail to act’ as tenants are illegally thrown out
A charity working to stop illegal evictions has urged the Metropolitan police to give its officers better training after they failed to arrest a landlord who allegedly forced his way into a family’s home with a crowbar and tried to drag them down the stairs.
