Turkish man turns the page on smoking, buys 10,000 books instead
A 73-year-old man from Turkey's central Kayseri province has been buying books instead of cigarettes ever since his friends invited him to smoke when he was in high school. Yusuf Özmerdivenli, principal of the Kayseri science high school, has purchased more than 10,000 books since he pledged to spend his money on books rather than cigarettes.

Niran Jeyanesan thought he was responding to a routine shoplifting call on Aug. 6 at a Walmart in the city’s north end. The 18-year-old who had allegedly attempted to make off with some clothes had picked out a long-sleeved shirt, a tie and a pair of socks. He told the officers they were meant for a job interview.

Ladybird, a Staffordshire Terrier, was originally trained to be a service animal for a woman who had narcolepsy and seizures. When the woman ended up homeless, Ladybird stayed by her side on the streets of Austin.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office confirms a 3-year-old girl who was reported missing on Thursday evening has been found. Deputies tell us Serenity Dawn Sanders was found safely around 7:30 Friday morning roughly about 600 yards from her house. When she went missing Eric Gilbreath got a call about it. "Your heart just falls out on the floor. My first thought was helping getting out there and looking. I wasn't going to give up," Gilbreath explained.

Toddler, 3, makes life-saving 911 call after mother collapses

Dorothy Craig, of Cleveland, Texas, may very well have saved her mother’s life — or her siblings’ lives — on Wednesday when she collapsed and fell unconscious on the floor, according to Houston ABC station KTRK. That’s when Dorothy, not even old enough to go to school, sprang into action. The youngster picked up a phone and immediately called 911.

"The police later told me she had dirty clothes in her bag because she was homeless and didn't want anyone to know," Akbar Cook, the principal of West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey, told CNN. An on-duty bus driver in Milwaukee knew what she had to do when she saw a young boy when a baby wandering around alone near busy streets. Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) driver Irena Ivic spotted the boy, wearing only a red onesie and no shoes, running down the sidewalk at 8 a.m. on Dec. 22, 2018.
