The True Cost of a Burger
In 2005, the House of Representatives passed an act that forbade consumers to sue fast-food operators over weight gain. “The Cheeseburger Bill” (formally, “The Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act”) attempted to legislate the message that the costs of fast food are personal, not social, and certainly not a consequence of selling harmful food at addictively low prices.

Big Food Is Not The Enemy
Fast food isn’t wrong. Sometimes I’m hungry and I want my food fast. And Big Food isn’t the enemy. How many people are there on this planet? We need some big farms and big kitchens. The problem is how we’ve structured most large-scale and quick-service food operations. We’ve added preservatives to reduce the cost of waste and increased levels of salt and bad fats to mask an inexpensive, low quality product.

What exactly is in McDonaldâs french fries?
fasMickey D's uses varieties like the Russet Burbank, which have a nice oval shape and just the right balance of starch and sugar. Excess sugar can cause a fry to have brown spots where it's over-caramelized, leaving a burnt taste and deviating from the uniform yellow-arches color.

I’ve worked at McDonald’s for 10 years and still make $7.35 an hour
As fast-food workers, we prepare burgers and fries, not balance sheets. We struggle to survive from paycheck to paycheck, without million-dollar annual bonuses or second homes. We often work behind the scenes—or counters, getting little of the credit for billions of dollars in company profits.

Burger Robot Poised to Disrupt Fast Food Industry
I saw the future of work in a San Francisco garage two years ago. Or rather, I was in proximity to the future of work, but happened to be looking the other direction. At the time, I was visiting a space startup building satellites behind a carport. But just behind them—a robot was cooking up burgers. The inventors of the burger device? Momentum Machines, and they’re serious about fast food productivity.

There are times when it doesn’t pay to be the global face of the American way of life. McDonald’s Corp is facing a possible mass shutdown of its restaurants in Russia in what appears to be a thinly-veiled retaliation at U.S. sanctions on the country for its role in stoking the Ukrainian conflict.
