The Big Storm Coming to the South and Eastern United States

I am going to cover this storm with as much live coverage as I can find. Live webcams,pictures and news and whatever else I can find.     Strong winds continue to blast the Mid-Atlantic region. The Brandywine Light buoy in lower Delaware Bay has reported sustained winds at or above 50 mph since 4:48 a.m., with a top gust of 66 mph. Assateague Island, Virginia, reports sustained east-northeast winds of 57 mph with gusts to 85 mph as of the 4:40 a.m. observation.

    From the weather channel-7:07 p.m. EST: More than two feet of snow has fallen in Baltimore and New York City. Through 7 p.m., 27 inches of snow was reported at JFK Airport in New York City; 26 inches of snow was reported at Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport; 25 inches at LaGuardia Airport in New York City.

    6:46 p.m. EST: Heavy snow in New Jersey has pushed the state's top snowfall total to 27 inches so far at Clinton.

    Accu weather updates-6:44 a.m. EST Saturday: More than 160,000 North Carolina customers are without power at this hour as a result of the winter storm, utilities report. Total over all states in the storm 208,000.

    6:57 a.m. EST Saturday: Duquesne University men's basketball team has been stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike for more than 9 hours, the university said.

    From the weather channel updates,"The water level at Lewes, Delaware, had risen to 9.09 feet, a storm surge of more than four feet. This ranks among the second highest water levels on record, there. "

    CNN reporting,- A weather-related traffic backup on southbound Interstate 75 in Kentucky is about 35 miles long -- between mile marker 76 and 41, state trooper Kendra Wilson told CNN on Saturday morning. People have been stuck on the highway for more than 12 hours.

      That's right up the road from me. I-75 is a heavy traffic highway and the gateway from the southeast to the north. I-75 Report

        Some of those people have been stuck on the road now 17 hours the article says.

          It is a big mess. There is not a lot of snow in Knoxville but the I-75 pass through the mountains is a higher elevation. The latest news report is that things are starting to move slowly and emergency vehicles and plows are trying to get everyone through.

    From Accu Weather-8:45 a.m. EST Saturday: A 40 mile backup has left vehicles stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike up to 10 hours.

    From Mashable-"This blizzard has another hazard besides the snow, sleet and strong winds its bringing to the East Coast: flooding. The storm is pounding the New Jersey and Delaware shorelines with 22-foot waves and a 3 to 5-foot storm surge that sent water levels to near all-time highs in some locations on Saturday morning. "

    From the Weather Channel-8:36 a.m. EST: Cape May, New Jersey, has also now seen a record high water level at 8.98 feet at 8:30 a.m. EST, beating the old record set during Superstorm Sandy of 8.90 feet.

    8:15 a.m. EST: Water level has risen to 9.27 feet at Lewes, Delaware. This is a new record highest level for that location, beating 9.20 feet on March 6, 1962.

    The warm side of Jonas getting organized-Thursday

    Scattered severe thunderstorms will flare up in Louisiana, far southern Arkansas and Mississippi as Winter Storm Jonas begins to organize in the South.
    These storms should spread into Alabama and the western Florida panhandle late Thursday night.
    Hail, damaging winds and a few tornadoes and localized flash flooding are all possible.

    East TN is looking at thunderstorms Starting Friday with a switch to sleet and snow mix into Saturday. Our local county is quickly trying to figure out how much brine they have in reserve.

    In my part of Ohio we will not get the snow,but we are getting some of the wind,up to 30mph gusts now as the storm moves up the coast.

      No decent webcams until the sun comes out again in east TN. It dropped bellow freezing awhile ago and now everything that was touched by the rain since this morning has turned to ice. We have achieved crunch grass status.

    From the Weather channel- The first 40 inch snowfall total has been reported in Glengary, West Virginia, located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.

    Siasconsett, Massachusetts on Nantucket Island reports a wind gust to 73 mph at 2:47 p.m., following a gust to 69 mph at 2:38 p.m.

    The roof of an unoccupied Dollar General store has collapsed under the weight of snow in Somerset, Kentucky, according to a report relayed by the National Weather Service.

    Blizzard warnings have been expanded to include Cape Cod in southeastern Massachusetts.

    NBC reporting 17 have died -Three New York City deaths, six of the deaths were in North Carolina, two were in Kentucky and two were in Tennessee, and there was one each in Virginia, Arkansas, and Maryland.
