I live almost on top of the New Madrid fault so an earthquake there would pretty much end me and everyone I know. In terms of event most likely to strike, flash flooding definitely.

Definitely with you on this. I live near Portland, OR and we're anticipating a gigantic earthquake that scientists have been predicting for some time, one that's rumored to hit and take out most of the city. It's been acknowledged by local government, but the attitude is essentially, "Enh, what can you do?"

I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, for no reason, terrified that I felt shaking.

Yeah that's pretty much my view on it. If I'm not mistaken someone estimated that the big one at the New Madrid here would kill 100k people immediately then displace millions more after that...and we all know it. But because it hasn't happened in 200 years we just sort of forget. Maybe I should move :\

Speaking of waking up and thinking you feel shaking, it happened to me a couple of days ago. So weird!
