Sorry I can't cite the source for you, but I do vaguely recall a discussion about remembering the time from a digital readout (e.g. phone or computer) .vs remembering the time from an analog clock (e.g. wall clock with hands, or a watch with hands).
Fact is, humans have superb positional memory (goes into long-term storage). looking at numbers is processed in the language centers, which have crappier retention. This allows someone to glance at their analog watch and recall what time it is for a lot longer than someone reading the digits off of a screen.
I can be full of shit, but I think that was the gist.
This would make so much sense with regard to why I struggle to remember directions via road names but give me landmarks and I'll get there everytime. Interesting
