Eight French people were among 10 killed when a Greek fighter jet crashed during take-off at a base in Spain. The F-16 jet "lost power", crashing at Los Llanos air base in Albacete, Spain's defence ministry said. At least five other planes were damaged. One of the two Greek pilots had performed a wrong manoeuvre, local media said. Both pilots were killed. French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian will travel to the scene of the crash on Tuesday.

More than 50 people have been killed and more injured after a bus collided with an oil tanker near the Pakistani city of Karachi, doctors say. As searchers close in on what appears to be the main wreckage of AirAsia Flight 8501 the retrieval of the airplane’s flight data and cockpit voice recorders should soon follow. The wreckage lies no more than around 100 feet down in the Java Sea. Although there are strong currents and poor visibility, compounded by the high seas generated by stormy weather, divers should be able to locate the rear end of the fuselage where the flight data recorder, the black box, is located.

An oil tanker and a bulk carrier collided off Singapore on Friday, causing a crude oil spill, the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said. The Libyan-registered oil tanker Alyarmouk collided with the Singapore-registered bulk carrier Sinar Kapuas about 11 nautical miles north-east of Pedra Branca, east of Singapore.
