I love playing as Venice in single player for all the reasons you said but in multiplayer I usually get destroyed because of the one city limit :/
I stay right away from multiplayer. I think there's a lot f potential heartache there.
You should join a no-quit group on steam or just play with friends.
I usually play with 3/4 friends and we add a few immortal IA to stomp early on.
Steam may be the way to go as none of my friends are interested in civs :c Thanks for the heads up c:
