First of all it's rare that you will encounter a bear that is meaning to hurt you, usually (99.9% of the time) they are more terrified of people than the other way around. Bring an air horn and bear spray just in case, don't leave food out in the open as the scent of food is the main thing that attracts them, especially those used to human food. Don't setup camp by any bear paths/trails to avoid accidental run ins. If you have a hunting/firearms licence, bring a rifle or a shotgun as a just in case.
