Creating things. Whether it's a new recipe, something I'm knitting, a drawing, or a map or GIS tool (I'm a geography grad student), there's just something really satisfying about taking something that's an idea in your mind and bringing it into existence. It's especially great when it's something that you can use at work or in your everyday life, like a python script or a pair of mittens!!

YO! I'm a geography grad student too; Fluvial Geomorphology, third year Ph.D.! I totally get what you're saying; pulling out bare earth DEM's or finding pulling out sediment load with remote sensing data helps make me feel really accomplished the day I make them (my background is in field work, not GIS, so it's an acquired skill set for me). Cheers!

Nice!! I'm focusing on GIS and watershed modeling, so I spend 100% of my time in a computer lab... wish I could get out and do some field work!! Hope to find a job after grad school where field work will take up at least half my time :)
