I would recommend a Merkur 23C - long handle or a Merkur 34C - short handle. Probably better with the 23C to begin with. Get wilkinson sword blades. All from Amazon.
I use normal shaving gel. You need to practice a bit but once you have it learned you won't forget.
I'd have to add, get a sampler pack of razor blades. Different blades work better/worse for different faces.
