For me, the "bring 100% every time" thing must be podcasts. I get sleepy pretty quickly whenever I'm driving, but with a podcast, I can easily destroy 500 miles in one sitting.

Just enough entertainment and distraction to keep me going. But not enough to make me a road hazard.

No doubt. Podcasts are a must have for any long trip. Gonna be on a 6hr flight (two flights with a layover) in about a month. My phone is gonna be loaded up to the brim with Podcasts.

    Phone.

Everything else can be purchased on the way.

Funny how that's turned out, isn't it? Back 10-15 years ago, you pretty much had a shopping list of crap to remember. These days, as long as you have your cellphone, ID, and a credit card, you can pretty much walk out the door and end up exactly where you need to be. The phone has take over for a dozen different things. From maps, to entertainment, to communications.

Would start a list, but I'm too busy figuring out what I need to take on a road trip a couple of short hours from now.

Water, map, tissues, snack bars, money, hat, fleece blanket. A phone, I suppose. Of course I'd have to get a car...

Hold on... A map? A physical map? What is this the 90's? Lol. Just kidding!

It's the only thing I can read in a car!

I bring my Laptop and Phone.

I get road-sick easily, so it helps keep my food in my stomach

It depends on the destination, but mostly when I road trip, it's to get out of my life for a little while.
So really, I'll bring a flashlight, a little knife, my GPS to do some geocaching, change of clothes, some music appropriate to fit the scenery. No phones, no computers, no handhelds, no cameras...I want to see and experience the world, not film it. :)

Flashlight, phone, laptop, pocket knife. If its a long one I would pack a backpack with all the general living essentials.
