I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears...in...rain.

    Or maybe not.

Have you been waiting long for a chance to use that?

Clear night sky with no light pollution. You are looking at countless stars, pinpricks of light that have crossed unfathomable distances. Then again, chemical reactions, bacterial cultures, electromagnetic fields, mathematical proofs, computer simulations, are all amazing in their own ways. Just because it is common place doesn't take away from the fact that it is awe inspiring.

    Two things comes to mind:

    - the Antonov An-225 Mriya (world's largest airplane) passing a few meter above my head when landing at the Guarulhos International Airport (GRU)

    - Rolling Stones Live at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro wit more than a million people watching.

Mine is pretty nerdy, and also counts as the most amazing thing I've ever heard with my own two ears: The Pokémon Symphonic Evolutions orchestral presentation at the Mann Center. Between the masses of fellow fans, the beautiful music, and the cool displays on the screen, it was just great. Being right in the midst of it all--I was seated in the center of the second row in the pit--just made me feel so tiny and inspired! It was definitely worth flying all the way out to Philadelphia. :)

The dark shadow rushing across the land at the start of the total eclipse of the sun in 1999. It was at that moment that I grokked just how fast the earth is spinning.

Also a plane tale - my boyfriend and I were driving round the perimeter road at Heathrow Airport and reached the end of the runway bit just as Concord took off. As it flew overhead the afterburners came on. At that look into the fires of hell we both ducked, and the noise! That was a hell of a thing. :)
