As for me: Vacation! To the beach, to the mountains, and some roadtrip to a yet-to-be-decided location. And also online classes, most likely. Which is less of a blast, but I've got to get all the credits I can since I'm aiming for early graduation.
As for what you should do: I recommend that you get lost. Just up and leave. Like, of course take your phone and everything, but don't you dare use the GPS feature on it. Don't plan a set route (a set destination is okay, so long as it's sufficiently far away), just literally go where ever the road takes you. Pick a highway--better yet, pick a random backroad--and just gooo! You really don't even need a car for this, the Greyhound will take you far. If you're older, you can take things as slow as you want, or if you're young, you can chase the thrill of your life. If you're lonely, then you can take a buddy, or if you're adventurous, then you can make friends wherever you go. It's all about the freedom with this type of thing.
Seriously, all of my favorite Summer trips have been like this. I drove from South Carolina to Niagara Falls and back in 3 days one time, stopping everywhere and detouring every other turn just because I felt like it, and it is one of the best vacations I've ever had. I mean, sure, all of my friends think I'm crazy for doing stuff like this, but if last year was so "stale and boring" for you, then what's wrong with a little crazy? :)
If you're lonely, then you can take a buddy, or if you're adventurous, then you can make friends wherever you go.
I personally recommend the latter. We don't talk to anyone (seriously enough) when we travel with other people, the best acquaintances I made were when I was travelling alone. You really get the chance to know yourself better, discover strengths you didn't even know you had, meet awesome people from all over the place.
I also recommend staying either in youth hostels (despite the name, there's no age restriction) or even hospex networks, à laCouchsurfing, Hospitality Club or BeWelcome. Or if your budget is tight, consider exchanging some services against shelter and food, with the likes of WWOOFing or WorkAway.
