About 2 years ago I started writing my own music as a means of expressing myself because I felt it was the only medium that could help at the time, and didn't try before because before that I thought "there's no way I'd be able to write music! Only talented people can do that"
Well I started writing and it wasn't terrible. Then I realised I wanted to keepwriting but needed to get better at guitar to continue writing more so I took up guitar lessons to help. Now, 2 years down the line, with the encouragement of my teacher, I'm playing my first small live performance for friends and family (+/- 60 odd people), with most of my own stuff as the material, at the end of this month. So I guess, I can kind of write and play music and also sort of sing too haha.
(Being put on the right meds which therefore hugely boosted my self-esteem helped me change my view about my abilities a little :P Still sometimes catch myself feeling like people are just being nice to me though)
It's worth it man. And worst case scenario, you have some fun jamming on a guitar,but my money is on, once you are trying, you'll start to make some cool stuff. :) Good luck

Congratulations, that's really awesome! You've motivated me to pick up my guitar and give it a chance.
