Also, remakes kind of kill the joy of discovering something new and untried, something with limitless potential. I guess I'm hoping producers will toss that out for us again.

I disagree, at least in certain situations. I'll use video games, specifically Final Fantasy 7 since that remake is coming out soon. I never played FF7 and now a day's I would never have been able to enjoy it without the remake. The game is far too old so it's graphically and mechanically bad. So for me, the remake is my chance to experience what people experienced nearly two decades ago.
I think the problem is everyone focuses on remakes from the point of view of a current fan. That and the movie industry doesn't wait nearly as long as the gaming industry to put out remakes.
