Its actually good, we did this for a while in prep for one Japan trip (since we'd be walking a lot). You hardly think about the walking.
It does sound like a good idea. And, if you don't especially enjoy exercise, combining it with TV sounds like a good way to work around that :)
The Wii controllers also plays a timing tick for every step so you can keep a rhythm while watching and not actually needing the visuals of the game.
