It's really just simple. There's a simple but powerful command set, and it's easy to implement. Most of what I do it working with databases, and it's just plain fast. I write a lot of on-the-fly text file conversions, and I can write/implement them in an hour. My only languages prior are C++ and VB, so I probably don't know enough about "fun" languages to be able to recommend this to people.
