I think I would want a species only Malawi cichlid tank. Perhaps Labidochromis kimpuma or Melanochromis johanni. Right now I have a single Nimbochromis polystigma in a tank by himself because he's a big meanie and would kill anything else I put in there. I wish I had a species group with a male and a harem of females. Rift lake cichlids have big personalities that are much easier to observe when they are in groups. Of course, this would necessitate a giant tank, maybe 300 gal or so. But, we're dreaming here, right?

Yes we are dreaming, and apparently we are dreaming big! This tank sounds like it would be really cool. I really enjoy species specific tanks. This is when you get to see the truly unique behaviors and personalities of fish. And there is the potential of them spawning, which is almost always a plus. In a tank this size you could potentially have multiple males establish spawning territories. That would be cool!

Oooh! Multiple males would be awesome to watch! My favorite thing about cichlids is watching them interact with each other; battling over territory, flirting with each other, and digging out caves and stuff. Plus, possible spawning is a BIG bonus!
