I recommend taking a look at Tatami Galaxy. It's not super similar to NHK but, like get9 mentioned, it does introspection well. I also highly recommend Planetes if you want to see characters that feel truly real.
I've been meaning to watch Planetes for a while, now. The backlog I have of anime series is frightening. Coupling the backlog with watching new series as they come out, it's just slow going.
