App Ops - ROOT REQUIRED - Android 4.3 or higher - This app lets you block permissions for specific apps. Don't want that flashlight app having access to your GPS, Wifi Connection, and your first born child? Block it!
Amazon App Store - It's an app store...they give free apps a lot. Usually they're terrible, but occasionally you'll snag a gem.
BR Team Stream - I am a diehard Utah Utes fan (in case the name didn't clue you in already). This is an excellent way to get news on my team from a variety of sources.
File Explorer - This app is an excellent file explorer with Material Design, and no ads. Media, Networking, and cloud required a paid add-on.
Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Onenote - These are surprisingly good versions of the core Microsoft Office apps. A free account allows creating and editing documents, though an Office 365 subscription is required for a LOT of features.
Portal - No, not the game. Sorry! This is an excellent WiFi file transfer tool. Navigate to portal.pushbullet.com, point the QR reader at your monitor, and BAM! Drag and drop any files you want to the browser, and they'll be sent over your local WiFI to your phone. It's almost like its a portal to your...oh...
Pushbullet - Ever wanted to push links from your computer to your phone? Or from your phone to your tablet? This is exactly what you're looking for. It's quick, easy, and painless. The development team is excellent, and are constantly working on improvements (that don't suck!).
Spotify - Free download ($10 per month, $5 with various discounts) - Spotify is an excellent music streaming service with a wide collection of music. I've never had a problem with it.
Titanium Backup - ROOT REQUIRED - Free download. Pro key is $6 - This app is an absolute essential for anyone who flashes ROMs to their phone frequently. It not only backups your apps, but also the data inside them. You can configure it to upload these backups to a cloud service as well.
Viper4Android - ROOT REQUIRED - This is an excellent equalizer and audio effects tool. It affects the phone system wide, and works very well.
Wakelock Detector - ROOT REQUIRED - Ever wondered just what app was draining your battery like crazy, even when the screen wasn't turned on? Wakelock detector might help you find it. The app measures when apps ping your phone when you're not using it, preventing it from keeping in a lower power state.
Wunderlist - This app is an excellent productivity tool, to create to-do lists. This is an absolutely lifesaver for me, at school.
