Fitness trackers are no good at counting calories, and other lessons from wearing four at once
For 10 days last month, I strapped on four fitness trackers for every waking hour—all in the name of science. I wore them to brunch. I wore them on my birthday. I wore them when I got sick and spent a full day in bed. For a week and a half, I was quantified—in quadruplicate.

Basically, that's the goal of them in a nutshell. A visual reminder that you probably shouldn't have that second helping of desert, that you probably can park a little further out in the parking lot at the store, That it's a good idea to take the stairs. I've had a Fitbit One for about a year now and it's been an amazing tool for exercise just by being a constant visual reminder of "you need to get off your ass and move".
Lost 50 pounds, did 8 5K's and one 10K last year. Already did 2 5K's this year, and scheduled for several more already. The Fitbit didn't do it for me, but it was the reminder I needed that I'm not getting any younger and it never hurts to be in shape.
So, if you're looking for a 100% accurate "exactly every calorie is measured and counted" sort of device, it will never happen. Not with any good battery life. If you want something to inspire you to exercise more, and get into a healthier frame of mind, then they're recommended.
