This is not current news, but from 2012. However, I like having ammunition like this in my arsenal when people try to tell me that religion is inherently harmless.

Even as an atheist myself, I'd roll my eyes if someone tried to use this as a weapon against religion. Religion is not the reason that women is mentally ill; I have high doubts religion is the reason ANYONE is mentally ill. It's only by chance that he died over the Koran and not for "no reason" or for something as silly as not throwing away a piece of garbage.

In police interviews she also confessed to beating her son for no reason and that her anger often led to her being out of control.

How much cover do you think she got when she cited religion as her justification for abusing her child?

Where do you see her justifying anything, especially in regards to religion? All I see is her describing severe anger problems and it doesn't even look like an excuse or "justification" for anything.

She beat him for failing at his religious studies. Do you think that was the first time? Do you think the boy got much sympathy over his alleged failings?
