The right to die
IT IS easy to forget that adultery was a crime in Spain until 1978; or that in America, where gay marriage is allowed by 37 states and may soon be extended to all others by the Supreme Court, the last anti-sodomy law was struck down only in 2003. Yet, although most Western governments no longer try to dictate how consenting adults have sex, the state still stands in the way of their choices about death. An increasing number of people—and this newspaper—believe that is wrong.

Human beings are expensive and a pain in the ass. If killing is made easier it will happen often. Usually, as with my father and mother, people at the end of life are incapable of saying what they want and it's up to the family or medical opinion. Recent studies suggest that those in comas are still cognizant and understand events around them. Imagine laying there while your spouse or children or doctor give orders to kill you. Of course if popular opinion gets hooked on this it will go forward regardless and the killing will begin.
