Republicans offer legislation defunding Planned Parenthood
Congressional Republicans began working Wednesday to defund Planned Parenthood as House Democrats called for Attorney General Loretta Lynch and the California attorney general to investigate the group that produced the undercover sting videos at the center of the controversy. Sen. Rand Paul, a GOP presidential contender, introduced an amendment to the tax code that would strip Planned Parenthood of the federal dollars it receives annually for a range of women’s health services.

What's sad is the funding is for other health issues such as mammograms and pap tests but all they see is that some offer abortions and feel that the need to defund it all.
It's sad that some Republican legislators see pandering to their base as more important than the health of women.
I think is only part of it. They seemed to have moved past doing it for the base and truely believing in what they are doing. I do not think they realize the damage they will do to women's health with something like this.
There's also the contraception. That's actually a third of Planned Parenthood's budget, and while they don't like to admit it social conservatives hate it. They're trying very hard to quietly introduce regulations and restrictions so it's harder for people to get.
The Christian right hates abortion. Easy access to contraception would be a surefire weigh to nearly eliminate the need for abortions, but they hate contraception that too. I think what they ultimately hate is women having sex for the simple joy of having sex. I swear if we gave the Christian right the power they'd take us straight back to the middle ages.
Well they seem to be stuck in the fifties on onter issues as well. I just wish they would open their eyes to the fact that education and access to birth control has and will reduce abortions.
I can see that being a reason as well. Although with the ACA in place women can now get contraception for free through other means which helps. It would still hurt a section of the population that cannot or do not want to see a primary physician.
I've got to assume that the President would veto this, though one plan is to attach it to a Highway Transportation bill.
It's like ACORN: the House has control over the purse. If they refuse to fund it the President can't stop them.
ohh crap how did I forget this. In that case it is a shame we would lose this, from what I can tell upstanding and necessary, organization.
