I have a telephoto 70-300 that I use for most of my nature photography. Unfortunately it's the only lens I have at the moment as my 50 has a huge scratch on it.
Yeah the stinkin springs on the lens cover finally decided to stop working so it came off in my bag. I've been using the telephoto a lot lately so I hadn't pulled it out in awhile. Took it out for a good lens cleaning and discovered the lens cover had worked its way partially off leaving a nice scratch in the lens. :(

Just hearing of a scratch on a lens gives me a sad... Sorry /u/schrodingersman!

That's just painful. Was it at least a thrifty fifty?
It was just the kit lens that had come with my camera. But it was the first lens I had ever owned so it had a little more value than just the price.
Understood. But, it did it's job, right? Got you using the camera :)
