Sorry to break the bad news to ya, but Crimea is Russian territory. Poroshenko apparently didn't get the memo. The world doesn't care, sorry about your bad luck.

The U.N. does not recognize the Russian government in Crimea as legitimate and Ukraine has protested any moves or statements that treat Russia’s authority on Crimea as anything but an illegal occupation.

Possession does not translate to ownership.

Wanna bet? Who controls Crimea right now? Russia. Who is doing anything about it? Nobody. So, who owns what? Russia is not part of the UN and could not possibly give one small fuck what the UN, or anybody else, thinks.

As long as Crimea has the option of appealing to the world community for help the issue is not resolved. The UN can't authorize action against Russia while Russia is on the Security Council, but it still provides a platform for Crimea to plead its case for an international coalition to help them.

Except, what the U.N. says is pretty much irrelevant. What are they going to do, invade Crimea and give it back to Ukraine?

No, but they can use the UN to plead their case to other nations to assist them. International recognition is what grants legitimacy, otherwise it's just an occupation.
