Man Who Studied Cecil the Lion for 9 Years Talks Impact

When Cecil the lion's carcass was finally found after he was lured out of a Zimbabwe wildlife reserve to be killed by an American hunter, it was a headless, skinless skeleton the vultures had been picking at for about a week. Conservationists decided the most natural thing was to leave the...

this issue is one that's comparatively simple to address compared to the other issues raised in the article.

Right! I can see a very clear course of action, some of which I can participate in, to deter similar senseless trophy killings.

    1. Remove the "ego incentive". Instead of the normal pat on the back from his buddies, he's getting a big "f*ck you, this is NOT okay" from the world, his countrymen, and his neighbors.

    2. Remove his ability to fund these excursions. By making his patients aware that THEY are ultimately funding his bad behavior, he can be striped of his source of income.

    3. Somewhat out of my influence: hope for legal action/extradition.

Everyone, IN THIS MOMENT, focusing on this single outrage, can make such an example of this guy, that others will hesitate to follow. Further, once people see that focused effort can lead to a desired result, they will be more willing to repeat that effort in the future.

I had no idea what the Monty Hall problem was. Upon looking it up, I think I can explain it:

Monty introduced NEW INFORMATION into the system once he exposed the door that was a zonk (he told the contestant which door NOT to choose). The contestant had NO new information on the door he/she chose, but new (and beneficial) information on the doors he/she didn't choose. To benefit from that new info, the logical choice was to switch.

If that still doesn't make sense, i can try to explain it differently.

Thanks for that! Here are two relevant bits:

"We started with a core team of 3 in 2011 with an idea to create a social content aggregator that would focus more on personal profiles as we felt that would increase the quality of interaction amongst our growing community of members. Our team grew by 3 more over the past couple of years as we worked towards an appropriate direction (we are all very close). We are located in Vancouver, Canada and across a number of towns in Poland, and we use collaboration tools to organize each other and sometimes meet up to get together and come up with ideas (although we don't do it too often as international travel is expensive!). All of us have full time jobs and currently work on Snapzu part time due to current financial constraints, however would love to some day be able to just focus on Snapzu fulltime! We are all very excited that Snapzu is growing and are always checking to see who the new faces are! If you like what we are doing please get in touch, we love feedback, suggestions and feature requests! We can be reached at /u/teamsnapzu or contactus@snapzu.com. Maybe one day we will create an about us page, but for the sake of our belief in responsible anonymity we felt our personal profiles don't matter as much as what we create, maybe we are wrong in that regards."

    ---

In 2010 work began on a new medium that would allow content created by anyone to be shared and built upon by thousands of users effectively making user created content in itself; social.

The goal was to make content readable, organized and reusable as opposed to one large, cluttered & difficult to navigate page. Users would create smaller, more organized and precise chunks called Snaps that essentially work together to form a Story where each snap represents a chapter.

The social aspect becomes obvious when a snap created by a single user appears in dozens of snap stories that credit the original snap creator. This concept not only allows information to be reused, it promotes group publishing and the ability to spread something wonderful further that any one person ever could.

My friend and I toured Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and The Czech Republic right after grad school. We did the backpack/hostel thing, but rented a car instead of taking the train (it was a bit cheaper for a short trip). We had no set plans...just rough ideas of where we wanted to visit. We used stories and recommendations from other hostelers to guided us.

I feel like Snapzu's prior users simply are too polite to tell us to just freaking adapt to their local culture. That's how this website works, it's not really up to us to change it. Jesus Christ, what is so hard to understand?

I came here from Reddit because of this culture. I don't want to see that change. OP, you have a choice:

    1. Adapt to Snapzu culture

    2. Use Voat

    3. Stick with Reddit

It's okay that you asked the original question, but after your edit/round 2, even I downvoted your post (congratulations...you received my first downvote). Why? You weren't really asking a question and taking in the answers. You were beating people over the head with how it should be. Borderline trolling.

For the reason's you've given, the downvote button can be considered a "STFU button" when used improperly, instead of being used as a moderation button.

Who needs to be convinced to make this happen?

I think the solution is to change the image that represents the downvote button so it is understood for the intended flag-like purpose.

What would it take to make this happen? (a question for anyone who knows)

The content is sorted by the hive-mind!

That's supposed to be a good thing?!?

"The Italian astronomer and physicist Galileo Galilei was trialled and convicted in 1633 for publishing his evidence that supported the Copernican theory that the Earth revolves around the Sun. His research was instantly criticized by the Catholic Church for going against the established scripture that places Earth and not the Sun at the center of the universe." source
