Food allergies are on the rise
Food allergies are an increasing problem with gluten, milk, eggs, fish, nuts, soya, celery and sulfite the main triggers.

The question is if they are really on the rise or if this is a combination of better diagnosis and overprotective parents and hypochondriacs jumping to conclusions. For gluten I suspect there is lots of latter as it as become almost a fashionable allergy.
My daughter had a severe anaphylactic reaction to macadamia nuts. Maybe in the past kids just suddenly died and no-one knew why. I'm not sure how likely it is that you can have an actual "allergy" to gluten, given "allergy" is a specific medical term. You can have an allergy to wheat proteins but that is a different thing.
