I think it would still happen, because of the problem of jurisdictions. Short of having a worldwide internet police, how would one deal with a hacker from India breaking into American Facebook accounts? Sounds like a heck of a lot of bureaucracy to me...

I actually still live here, and will until the end of the month. I have visited Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing (the "big three" as far as mainland cities are concerned) and I live in Shandong province, so I have been to Jinan, Qingdao, Qufu, Liaocheng, Gaomi, Changyi, and Rizhao. The city I live in (Gaomi or 高密) is small by Chinese standards - only about 800,000 people total. It is hard to distill the essence of living in China into a comment, but I'll do my best.

It is definitely different from living in a western, developed country, but it isn't like living in the third world. Most people have smart phones, but cars are still pretty scarce. I and most of the people I know travel by electric scooter. Public transportation is MUCH better than in the US, Canada, or New Zealand. I can grab a taxi to anywhere in the city for about US$1. However, there are also those culturally different things that make us western 老外

I'm going to have to go with Arabic. This is because not only is it spoken in a wide range of countries, but it is also a language of critical interest to western governments and businesses.

Also, I think it sounds really cool.

    你会说汉语吗?一共我学习八个月了。现在我住在中国。英文和中文很不同的·,但是我不觉得中文很难。

At least Chinese doesn't have conjugations or declensions or anything. A lot of the time, I think it's status as a "difficult" language is mostly undeserved, and only from the perspective of English speakers.

I am a real sucker for the author John Green. Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns, and The Fault in Our Stars are all amazing reads. His skills with the English language make me laugh, cry, and rage.

I completely agree about being female on Reddit - it was usually so much better not to let anyone know. Sometimes it was really annoying to be treated differently strictly because I have a different party going on between my legs. I mean, sometimes the content or responses were cute or funny, but a lot of the time it was just rude, sexist, or even somewhat aggressive.. Every time a redditor revealed she was a girl, there was always that kind of lame and creepy response "RIP your inbox." No thank you.

I'm pretty good at learning languages. I ranked 13th in Latin at the Junior Classics League National Championships when I was in high school. I also studied Spanish and German and taught myself Tolkien's Quenya Elvish. After one semester abroad in China and another semester of study in New Zealand, I knew and spoke enough Chinese to live and work in China without many hassles. I always wonder how people can study a language for years and still not be able to speak it. It usually only takes me about four months or so before my skills are usable.

I agree completely. It's hard to settle down when one has to move across the country (or even to another country altogether) just to stay economically viable. I think part of it has to do with economic hardship, part of it is changing value systems, and more than a little of it is due to how many Millennials grew up with divorced parents.

Thanks! I thought it was relatively well-balanced and thought out. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

It is definitely a difficult balance and a troubling situation. The value of a college degree has not stayed equal with the costs and debt one has to take on to get the little piece of that says, "look at me, I learn good." I agree with you that there are lots of required classes that do little to further our employment prospects. Having gone to a liberal arts college, that definitely resonates with me.

I too lucked out and have been able to find engaging and provoking employment post-graduation, but there are far too many young people whose education and skills have not translated into viable economic options. As a society, I think it is important for us to reevaluate these educational and economic systems, because it has far-reaching implications in many different sectors - education, employment, home ownership, marriage, child-rearing, and more. The real question is, how do we fix it?

These are so interesting, and raise a lot of questions for me... infants in space? Is this a new way of instituting the One Child Policy? I joke, but this is a really unique take on space propaganda.

Fewer Millennials Are Getting Married, So Don't Worry About Rushing to the Altar Just Yet

According to a new Urban Institute study, Millennials as a whole are staying single for significantly longer than previous generations did. And call me crazy, but I don’t think that’s such a bad thing.

I was trying to think of a better title, because I think you're right. However, I do think one of the panelists was pretty negative. Don't study anything with "studies" in it? Really? One of my majors was Global Studies, and I am doing just fine, thank you sir. I also think it's a good discussion, and it brings up a lot of solid points. For example, the demise of manufacturing is definitely one of the root problems a lot of young people are facing. When my dad was in college, he worked at a chemical plant in the summer. I didn't have many options except for waiting tables or babysitting.

I personally love sitting in fields of unwashed hippies, but I get where you're coming from. I had a college roommate that played the Grateful Dead EVERY NIGHT to go to sleep, so I am kind of over them. However, I will acknowledge that they did make a big contribution to music, and paved the way for modern jam bands like Lotus, who I do really enjoy.
