    He works for Linux Foundation, they probably have a corporate account. Even if he didn't, just because something is free doesn't mean it's above criticism, see open air television. It's "free" (actually it's not. just like Gmail, it's paid by advertisers) but people bitch about it all the time.

    In Gmails case it's worse, because it's not a passive entertainment we're talking about, it's a work tool for him, and wince Linux powers 100% of google servers, Google depends on Linuses work just as much as Linus relies on Google for email.

    First thing I'm gonna do monday is warn everybody in my office to check their spam boxes, we have a corporate account with google, and being in the advertisement business, it's pretty easy for us to get a lot of false positives.

      And the proof that it had the right to complain is that someone from Google is already looking into it.

      I guess that gmail filters are still working fine for 99% of the users, Linus just happened to fall into the 1% that have different use cases and for which Google will have to fix the new filters.

      Criticism is one thing. Ranting and telling them to "get your shit together" is just uncalled for. If you have a problem or issue let them know so they can fix it.

        A rant like this from Linus is the kind of stuff you put on your CV. He only does this for people he believes should be able to better.
