that was the whole point, actually. those prisoner ships were kept illegally by the british government and eventually sunk by the revolutionaries to free the prisoners. too bad the deeper historical context and meaning are lost on these reactionaries...
additionally, they took great pains to not only design an addition to the existing monument that would match and compliment its existing design, but to mount it to a way that would in no way damage it if it were to be removed. a great deal of thought and planning went into this. this was no simple, thoughtless act of vandalism.
