Those are actually good reasons for trying something different! Political discussions with the barber would also drive me nuts :D I have been going to my local barber since I was a kid, and luckily we never get into those types of conversations. On the other hand I really enjoy the close knit environment and the fact that I usually run into someone I know there and can catch up.
