Basic income seems, to me at least, more of an indication of our narcissistic self-regard than the remedy for it. Conceit alone doesn't put beans on the table, right?

It's not heavy shit to me....it is pure bullshit to me. A basic wage, who defines that...Walmart and CVS? I am utterly opposed to this idea that someone is going to pay me and my family and friends a living wage. Who is going to pay me?

Worse: he who can withhold basic income from poor people, controls poor people.

Exactly. And it will push the middle class even further to that condition. There will be a redefinition of what poor is and somebody will decide that definition for them.

While a five pound sack of potatoes will sell for $117.50 off your benefit card.

I don't really think the proponents of basic income understand how profound your statement is, and if they do they should be avoided.

We see price inflation all the time, but what has struck me over the last however-many decades is what happened to the cost of college as more and more financial aid has become available to students. It’s done nothing so well as drive the cost of tuition into the ionosphere. Unless you count plunging underemployed generations into trillions of dollars worth of worthless student debt. Making more money available for something has a way of driving prices for that thing upward. The fact people don’t get that calls into question to value of the educations being bought.

I don't doubt the sincerity of the concept by believers nor the good intentions.

Soooo... we're against Universal Basic Income now?

      Huh... I missed the memo...

Maybe I should’ve made it even clearer I was speaking for myself. I’m certainly not against clawing back from the 1% the tiny fraction of their wealth it would take to beat mass poverty. Let’s set aside, even, the fact that price inflation on everyday necessities will swallow up whatever boost to poor folks’ income there would be with this pipe dream scheme. Ignore, even, the folly of thinking work has become unnecessary. How about this: how exactly is it we will achieve a universal basic income? Prayer?

          Idk

How about this: let's head for the hills and fight a guerilla war till we overthrow all government?
