Study links excessive smartphone use to inability to endure emotional distress
New research published in Computers in Human Behavior suggests that those with poor emotion regulation skills are at higher risk of problematic smartphone use. “The research literature demonstrates associations between both anxiety and depression symptom severity with problematic smartphone use,” explained Jon D. Elhai of the University of Toledo.

Is it smartphone use, or what the smartphones are being used for?
I'd bet it's actually excessive social media use.
The constant lack of direction and deluge of provocative headlines/ideas/comments undoutedly derail the mind's ability to dive deep into ideas. It is necessary to exert self-control and critical thought about what media and ideas you consume. Ironic, that I'm saying this on a site dedicated to a deluge 24x7 news. At any rate, this site is pretty cool, I like abundance of technological and science articles shared on snapzu.
