There's another reason they didn't mention, with the energy companies asking and being approved for price hikes every year it makes many want to use less energy and it gets ridiculous, ours wants something like at 15% increase every year to continue building a nuclear plant that has been in limbo for years. I don't run lights unless absolutely necessary, my bathroom has a low watt night light that provides enough light to use the bathroom with, my living room TV provides enough light to see my way around the room, I only turn on the lamps when I am reading, I only need the light above the stove to cook, it's little things but I like that every light doesn't need to be on. Of course, that is mostly offset by running two aquariums and a desktop 24/7. Of course, my family says I like living in a dungeon.

Their golden hope is electric vehicles. When everyone is plugging their cars in every night, demand will rise. A lot.

That's possible but then there is the scary thought, that those that want electric cars will instead opt to buy a powerwall or other inverter|battery combo to store solar power and power their cars with solar instead.

Possible, for those at the intersection of financial means and location where enough power can be generated.

I wish I could do it.
