Commented in What is Signal? The basics of the most secure messaging app.
I love the internet and the freedom it gives in choice, expression and diversity. But a nasty thing that big companies, like Facebook or Google, bring is that people are not really that motivated to change to a better standard and/or do not want to "learn all that new stuff". That's more of a real world problem: laziness. I have Signal installed a pretty decent while ago and although I advertise it with articles like this one, people are like "but what about my friends, they don't change. I stay with [fill in behemoth]". The only way to dothat is by brute force, as in: advertise it with the message "I quit everything from [fill in behemoth] and if you want to get in contact with me, [fill in free/private standard/application] is the way to go. Bye."
That is a very destructive way, but also a good filter. At the end there's either no one left, or at least the people who see your point or people who really care (about you). Not the blindly clicked-on friends that you hardly know or even ever saw in real life. This makes the internet more of a place of coincidence again and it will give a more fair chance to, for instance, small entrepreneurs and artists. On big sites like Facebook, it is Facebook who decides if you will have customers or not, even with paid advertisements. Which I think is not a fair competition and it dilutes quality in a big sea of hobbyists and sets a way lower standard of quality. In real life that means you get passed by by people/clients who do not know quality and service anymore. I am all for breaking up big monopolists.

Commented in The poison found in everyone, even unborn babies – and who is responsible for it
We have seen through Covid-19 that wartime-style mobilization, huge in scope and scale, can be mounted against a mortal threat to the population. We have seen with our own eyes that this is possible. We must come together to shine our best science and leadership to learn and address the full extent of the threat to us and the damage to our environment and health posed by forever chemicals. And stop it – now.
Who should foot the bill for all of it? The companies who have been reaping billions in profits each year, for decades, from making and unleashing this lethal poison into the world, all the while knowing the grave health threat it posed to us and our children – but chose not to tell us
Yeah that’s not gonna happen for an actual threat that someone can be held accountable for
nice thought tho
we just don’t live in that reality
that’s someone else’s reality and not ours

Commented in Americans pay more for prescription drugs than anyone else. Can Amazon Pharmacy change that?
Only legislation can change this. Only fixing the US's broken health system, and broken pharmaceutical patent system can fix this.
Patents are government mandated monopolies. The opposite of free market and competition.
As for the health system, universal health cover is the only workable system. For some things socialism just works and capitalism just doesn't. Health and road systems are 2 of those things.

Commented in 'Every City Council Should Follow Suit': Portland, Oregon Becomes First US City to Ban Corporate Use of Facial Recognition Surveillance
This sounds like a bad idea to me. let's remove the ability to recognize people doing bad things so we protect the privacy of many who just don't care if there are cameras watching. My thought has always been...if you are not doing anything wrong, what's the issue?!

I have quite a few friends who are vegan these days, and seem to be living their best life. No health issues. It's all about substitution.

Commented in QAnon Followers Are Hijacking the #SaveTheChildren Movement
I don't care who hijacks the movement as long as positive change, meaningful legislation, and enforcement are the results. Human trafficking is despicable.

Commented in Might higher lithium levels in drinking water help prevent suicide?
No, it most likely won't. Careful blood monitoring of levels is required because the therapeutic dose isn't far from the toxic dose. Simply becoming dehydrated can tip you over to toxicity. So tossing in lower levels of lithium so as not to poison anybody isn't going to do anything but waste it.
Unless the discovered link (correlation /= causation) has controlled for population mental health levels, amount of sunlight, pollution, general health, income/poverty levels, and several dozen other things that don't immediately come to mind.

Commented in NYC cops find decapitated, limbless man in million-dollar condo; electric saw found next to torso
I live in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in taking care of myself and a balanced diet and rigorous exercise routine. In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion.

Commented in Amazon launches Counterfeit Crimes Unit to fight knockoffs on its store
It's a great move. But I suspect it's only because they have to, instead of that they want to. I bet that many others such as myself have stopped buying products from there because they are worried about brand authenticity. I don't mean fancy brand items - I don't buy those anyway. I mean things like skin care products - you don't know if you're getting the same item as what you get on the shelves at your local pharmacy. It could be a knock-off (yes, even of a non-fancy brand), and some things in it might even be toxic. So I only buy books, music, or movies from Amazon now, because they're some of the few things that are unlikely to be counterfeit (and if they are, they're unlikely to actually harm me).

Commented in WHO reverses stance on the harms of gaming during lockdowns
The surprise stems from the fact that the WHO had previously identified video game addiction as a mental health disorder on a par with gambling disorders.
The WHO never reversed their stance on video game addiction; they've simply recognized that gaming can have positive effects- particularly while people are stuck at home.

Commented in Why Do Vegans Make Some People So Angry?
For me,it's their preachy, pushy,I'm right, your wrong"dogmatic, domineering stance. I have a gut disorder which is aggravated by eating certain kinds of veg matter and I've been attacked by vegans on websites and basically told the pain I experience from eating certain items, such as beans,is less important than the pain an animal they will never even see experiences... Things like that and thinking that everyone should eat like them and consequences for those with gut disorders/diseases be dammed, they just don't care. I could go on and on,but I won't.

Commented in Netflix Claims Users Will Still Get HD and Ultra HD Streams Amid U.K., Europe Bandwidth Crunch — but With Lower Quality
Like there are no websites at all where all their series reside or are offered. For free. On the moment, or just after, each and everyone episode of their products is presented on their network. At higher speeds than their own offering. So, crunch away. I don't care. HAHAHA

Commented in Italy struggles to contain virus
It's really scary to see what the different impacts are in the European countries. Here in Belgium we have different measures and rulings than in, for instance, the Netherlands, our neighbors. They have way more cases than we have, while a same approach in Spain gives also more deaths (and cases). Is it the underlying healthcare system, or is it the care for elderly that counts? These are interesting points to study after this is over with? Your thoughts?
