Commented in The weirdness of youtube's algorithm
YouTube's algorithm can be a real headache, always trying to guess what we want to watch. And you know those casino backlinks? They're like unexpected guests that just keep popping up online. Not exactly what we're looking for, but somehow they manage to find their way into our feed.

Commented in 3 million smart toothbrushes were just used in a DDoS attack. Really
On Mastodon people are disagreeing, simply because the article in question doesn't tell about the target, there's only one single source and the researcher is not named. One of the responses to that post is pretty valid, namely the toothbrushes' brands are not mentioned and it seems rather impossible that toothbrushes have wifi, most of them have bluetooth (pun not intended) and are only connected to a phone. In order to use that phone, you have to hack that phone also. It's not that easy as presented. The article that was linked as source of the news was behind a paywall, so I have tried to undo it. Here's the link. To me it's more fearmongering than reality.
That being said, I think it's always smart to check the safety of your equipment, whether it's a toothbrush or a system critical computer. Like with operating systems, people tend to just use it, consume it, without questioning the safety of all that stuff. Putting your trust in companies is never a wise idea, since they have just one main goal: a profitable bottomline.
Edit: the botnet with toothbrushes story was merely an illustration and not a fact, see this Mastodon-post. Also on YouTube someone has some really well argumented comments on this story.

Commented in Why YouTube NEEDS To Get Worse
It got bad enough for me to find this alternative: https://freetubeapp.io/ Freetube works great, doesn't track or spy on me, or jam ads down my throat. Also, it has a very easy option to download the videos!
Fuck Google and YouTube.

Commented in Freemp3cloud
I remember those times when I go around looking for youtube to mp3 converters. I'm a music lover myself and I barely function without music even if its just gaming or washing the dishes or even taking a shower lol. But mainly studying, currently I'm taking up a marketing course and SEO is one of my subject, I've been studying hard for an upcoming exam and my spotify is on like 24/7

Commented in LIVE: Annular Solar Eclipse (Great American Eclipse) - October 14, 2023
Wow! This was quite a spectacle! I truly enjoyed watching this. It's just amazing when the moon covers the centre of the Sun, creating that stunning ring of fire. If you haven't seen one yet, I'd definitely recommend checking out this video or looking for other videos on youtube. There's definitely a lot more videos that showcase the beauty of eclipses.

Commented in Judas Priest - The Hellion / Electric Eye
I was about twelve when this record came out and had a recordplayer in my bedroom. Saved up all my money to buy that album. The two songs presented here are the first two tracks on the vinyl. The first time this came out of my speakers, I knew immediately that it was my kind of music. It showed on the record, those two tracks were a bit dark-grey (instead of the usual black). They are still playing after all those years, even released an album not too long ago (2018). Still a fan. :-)

Commented in Sleep Simulation: The Future of Sleep?
What I get from the article is mostly: less hours of sleep, is more hours of "being productive", as in: more hours of (wage) slave labor. I refuse to trade my hours of dreaming, resting and enjoying the best part of my life for some underpaying, high earning boss. Fuck. That. Shit.
Being more connected to our technology: shove that where the sun doesn't shine.
Then this:Sleeping is a big part of our lives, and it’s no secret that the less we sleep, the shorter our lifespan would be. But if we could find a way to reduce the amount of sleep we need, it would stand to reason that our lifespans would increase as a result.
Am I the only one who sees the utter bullshit of that quote? First stating a truth that if we sleep less our lifespan reduces and right after that trying to state that if "we" reduce our hours of sleep we'll increase our lifespan.
I admire the effort of sounding all utopian, but this pure bullcrap of an article tries to make us believe that we need to be more productive. Work work work work work, till you drop dead. In this world of overproduction, unequal divided resources, depression as one of the main diseases and also thanks to all that producing a more and more polluted world with a climate about to go haywire, yeah, let's sleep less and produce some more of that unneeded and unwanted shit.
Anyways, it's always nice to read that this kind of propaganda tries to manipulate us towards a dystopian world masquerading it as some sort of paradise.

Commented in From a stellar nursery to a cosmic car crash: Zoom in on the James Webb images
And it is just the beginning. I think in a few years time, this telescope will have changed significant parts of astrophysics. And therefor even change our perception of reality, for instance they were wrong about the bigbang, like it never happened and it was just an assumption with mostly circumstantial evidence, so there is a story of "how it all started" (and served very handy the doctrines of the Vatican )?
Or that dark matter is just an excuse for something unexplainable? You know, those kind of things. :-)

Commented in DuckDuckGo caught giving Microsoft permission for trackers despite strong privacy reputation
It is a war to collect users information. Using computer now look like offering a hacker to break into the personal information. It is facebook, youtube, google search, bing or any one else, a hunger of information collection is on the way. This is why, when some one just click on a product to see just details, all the marketers rush into the computer and keep on showing adds even half of the rest of life. What a misery.
