What would be awesome is if there was some type of central agency for ethical and non intrusive ads, and this site would overview the operation of websites that use proper ad tactics that would be in the best interests of the end user. Those websites that have adopted the standards would then be white listed, and the ad block software would allow white listed sites to be exempt from the ad blocking.
This would of course still be up to the end user to allow the whitelist to be unblocked, but at least then, you know that someone is constantly managing a list of sites that follow the rules when it comes to ads. A list of ad agencies and companies would also be made so that its easier for websites to pick and choose appropriate ads without having to worry that some ad agency or company will slip in something negative. If something like this already exists, It would be nice to know about it, I would be more than happy to support such a concept.
What I would like is if adblock could work on an "Activate for this site" basis, with deactivation as the default. I might consider reinstalling it if it had that. I don't think the whitelist is anywhere near sufficient.
That's why I use Adblock Edge. No white-list except what I create myself. Allowing ad companies to pay to be white-listed is going over the line, in my opinion.
Google.com as well (and maybe Gmail), unfortunately, so I personally had to turn the whitelist off and go back to selecting things to whitelist on my own.

I think Adblock plus already has a small white list, but not certain.

The only site I can think of that Adblock Plus has whitelisted is reddit.
