    I am far from being a scientist, but I have an idea what it can be. Just think about a regular camera. When you focus or zoom in on an object further away, everything closer becomes blurred, right? Well, let's say that the telescope has that same effect and the disturbances are something like a spec of dust a few meters away from the lens?

    Edit- I suppose from their perspective we are the aliens.
